A new comer to the Danish food scene, Verandah is a contemporary Indian restaurant that focuses on seasonal ingredients and modern day Indian food. Verandah is situated by the Copenhagen harbour and gives guests a great view of the Copenhagen waterfront. We were lucky to get a table by the huge windows, which was a real treat throughout the evening.
Verandah is the brainchild of Chef Karam Sethi (the youngest awarded Indian Michelin chef ever) and Rizwana Merchant. The restaurant is very minimal in its design - very bright and simple furniture. The big open dining room is full of trees and the blue curtains are in perfect contrast with the rest of what goes on. The only real Indian inspiration in the dining room are the Indian lamps scattered throughout the room. Verandah seats 80 people all together and since the restaurant is quite spacious it still delivers a quite intimate feel.
The concept is simple - yet interesting. Every 2 months the restaurant focuses on creating a menu from a specific region of India which means that guests can expect something new and unique quite often. You'll also find an array of interesting Indian tapas and a wide selection of Indian inspired cocktails. We went for the 'Taste of Verandah' menu, which included 3 courses. We made sure to try a lot of different things in order to experience what this place could deliver. Check out the pictures below to get an idea of what this place serves up.
Before the started the meal we made sure to try some of the cocktails. Above you see an Indian inspired Bloody Mary and the Mohitonic
The meal started out with papads with 3 very tasty chutneys - the pineapple and mango chutneys were delicious.
Following the papads we had 2 similar, but different dishes - the Pav Bhaji (bottom) and the Beef Kheema Pav (above)
We finished off with an incredibly tasty Chicken Makhani and the Chola Bhatura. These dishes were served with tarka dal, seasonal vegetables, Indian bread basket and basmati rice. Even though the above doesn't look like much food - it really was quite a lot. We were completely full after the first 3 dishes. The Chicken Makhani was definitely the most tasty of the dishes. We made sure to also try the Mango Lassis, as pictured above. You can never go wrong with a good Lassi with your Indian meal.
Ollie serving up some of the many different dishes that we were served. Verandah was a great place to go on a date.
We finished off with 2 desserts. Two scoops of homemade kulfis and the Phirni Brûlée made with Mango and sea buckthorn. All in all Verandah was good. It's definitely one of the best Indian places in Copenhagen. The location was pretty much perfect and so was the service -if you're looking for a place to go on a date night or want to satisfy your craving for Indian food this is a great option.
